Students and Research Associates
My research group is closely
linked to the Quantitative
Fisheries Center
(QFC) which I co-direct with Dr. James Bence. I am currently advising
three graduate students, Jared Myers
(MS), Brian Langseth (PhD), and Aaron Berger (PhD). Jared
recently defended his Master's thesis on the population dynamics
of
cisco in two Lake Superior embayments, and plans to continue his
research as a PhD student starting in the fall of 2008. Brian Langseth
joined the QFC in fall 2007 as MSU's first Willam E. Ricker Fellow.
Brian plans to focus his dissertation research on multispecies harvest
management issues in Lake Huron. Aaron will be joining the QFC in May,
having recently completed his Masters degree at Oregon State
University. His dissertation research will address percid harvest
management issues in Lake Erie.
At
the QFC I also work
closely with post-doctoral Research Associates Brian Irwin, Ty
Wagner, and Eli Fenichel on various projects concerning sea
lamprey, yellow perch, and lake whitefish management. Ty will be
leaving the QFC to join the faculty at Penn State University in April.
Weihai Lui is our programmer
and data analyst who provides invaluable assistance on many projects,
not to mention systems support. Gretchen Anderson, who recently
completed her MS working with me on an evaluation of sea lamprey larval
assessment methods, is now working for us as a Research Specialist.
Gretchen continues to help with sea lamprey research as well as
contribute to a broader investigation into how to effectively value
assessment information in fisheries management - a question that
emerged from her Masters research. Gretchen plans to start at PhD
program at the University of Wisconsin in June.
